Is Raw Honey Suitable for the Keto Diet?

Honey is known to be a better alternative to sugar.

But when you are following a keto diet and may start thinking about replacing sugar with honey. You need to ask yourself, 'Is raw honey keto?'

Will it negatively impact your diet or allow you to reap the benefits of this natural product.

Let us look into Raw honey's nutritional facts to find out whether it is a keto-friendly product or not.

Is Raw Honey Keto Friendly?

Honey is a sweet, thick liquid that honey bees produce. They collect nectar from flowers and consume this precious liquid, which they later regurgitate as honey.

If you look at the nutritional facts of raw honey, one tablespoon (approx. 21g) has 64 calories and about 17g of sugar, including fructose, sucrose, glucose, and maltose.

The carbs present in honey are entirely from sugar. It does not have any fat, dietary fiber, and just one-tenth of a gram of protein.

In a keto diet, you consume food items that are low in carbs but high in fat and have moderate amounts of protein.

Looking at the carb percentage of raw honey, it is not a good option for keto dieters.

If you consume small amounts of honey, it will allow your body to attain ketosis.

However, if you drink it in larger quantities, then it may reverse the effects of ketosis. So, eating one tablespoon of honey is nothing to worry about.

Even if Raw honey is not that suitable to take while you are on keto, it is still a better option than sugar.

Sugar is mostly processed, has a high glycemic index, and affects our health in the long run.

Raw honey is full of micro-nutrients such as vitamin B12, calcium, copper, magnesium, iron, niacin, riboflavin, phosphorus, potassium, thiamin manganese. It has antibacterial properties that help in healing wounds.

So, raw honey is more nutritious and healthy in the long run.

But, it is advisable to consume raw honey in small amounts to maintain your keto diet.
